Hacienda Pinilla Beach Resort and Residential Community

The Hacienda Pinilla Golf Course is a championship golf course that opened for play in 2001.  It is settled on a rustically elegant property offering visitors, miles of pristine beaches with delightful seascapes.

The 7,296-yard, par 72, course with a 98.1-acre playing area, is the creation of Mike Young.  A Tropical Dry Forest offers a diversity of habitats with natural trails to a one-of-a-kind masterpiece golf course.

Each hole was designed to conform to the slopes and contours of the natural landscape. Not only has Hacienda Pinilla Golf Course met the highest standards required by international golf organizations in building the course, but recently the property earned certification as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary for its preservation of the ecological balance of the area.

Courses like this are commonly called “Championship Layouts”.  This means that our course can challenge golfers of any skill level.  Two of our holes, 14 and 15, are ocean view.  The 15th hole is one of the most beautiful holes in Latin America.

While the driving areas are very friendly, the greens and their surroundings are very challenging.  Accurate iron play is the key to getting around this golf course, but the length will put you to the test.  You will find that the greens are very well guarded and are amongst the best in Costa Rica.

hoyo-golfPar 4.  The course begins with a moderate par 4 that requires a well-placed tee- shot to the left center of fairway. If the prevailing breezes are blowing, your drive will be straight into the wind, so keep it low. From here, it’s a mid-iron shot to a green that’s guarded on the left by a deep pot bunker

hoyo-golfPar 4.   This par 4 calls for a shot down the middle, preferably a 3-wood or long iron. The green slopes severely from back to front and is well bunkered in the front. So if possible, use a short iron or a sand wedge for greater accuracy on this potential birdie hole.

hoyo-golfPar 3.  Depending on the wind, which is usually at your back, this hole will require a long to medium iron to a green that is protected on the right and the back by severe bunkers. The right side of the green is a bowl that will hold the shot, but it has a false front that can be deceiving.

hoyo-golfPar 4. This hole starts with a blind tee shot downwind. Knock your best drive about 20 to 30 yards right of a tree that is visible on the left and you’ll be lined up for a mid to short iron shot to a small, flat green, guarded on the right by bunkers with a false front.

hoyo-golfPar 4. A well-placed driver or a 3 wood that carries a right edge safely to the left of the long waste bunker will leave you with a potential shot for birdie using either a short or mid iron. The green is mounted and bunkered in all directions..

hoyo-golfPar 5.  Place your drive to the left and this healthy par 5 can be reached in two with a fairway wood directly over the fairway bunker. Another option is to lay up your second shot to the right and pitch into the flat, but heavily bunkered green with a short iron or sand wedge.

hoyo-golfPar 3.  Beware of this mid-length par 3 that can require anything from a 5 iron to an 8. Pin placement and accuracy is crucial, because the middle back of this green protrudes treacherously into the lake and the front is guarded closely by bunkers on each side.

hoyo-golfPar 5.  A well-placed drive into the wind on this lengthy par 5 will leave you with a fairway wood directed back to the left side of the green and a short iron approach into a long green that is protected by a grassy hollow and a bunker on the right.

hoyo-golfPar 4.  Play your drive well to the left of the fairway bunker, unless you can carry the 255 yards (from the back tee). Chances are, the wind will be working against you. From the fairway, you’ll approach with a mid iron into a green the slopes severely to the right with a bunker on the left.

hoyo-golfPar 4.  This short hole can leave you with a big number before you know it. Control the driver so that you don’t play right through the fairway or place a 3 wood down the left side. This will leave you with a short iron into a 3-tiered green that’s guarded by the deepest bunker on the course.

hoyo-golfPar 3.  Play this par 3 to the middle of the green in most cases you’ll be in good shape. The back, right beyond the green has bowls, while the left front is more open, giving you a better chance with your chip shot. So don’t overdo it when the breeze is blowing at your back.

hoyo-golfPar 4.  Place this blind drive out to the left of the fairway bunker and hope that you’re not mixed among the moguls that cover this area. From here you’ll have a mid iron into a green that is well bunkered and slopes from back to front.

hoyo-golfPar 4.  Place your drive to the left of the old Pochote tree. With the wind, you should have no problem carrying the fairway bunker. That will leave you with a mid to short iron approach into a sloping green that offers many interesting putts.

hoyo-golfPar 5.  This is the longest hole on the golf course. So flex your muscles and let the wind carry your best drive right down the middle. Then follow it with you best fairway wood and a short iron into an oblong green. You’ll be rewarded with a spectacular view of the ocean.

hoyo-golfPar 3.  This stunning hole parallels a mangrove right up to the beach. Play a mid iron to the green, bearing in mind that prevailing offshore breezes will carry your ball toward the ocean and hopefully away from the large bunker. Enjoy the breathtaking view before you move on to #16.

hoyo-golfPar 4. Head into the home stretch with a pretty straightforward par 4. A well-placed drive here will leave you with a mid iron shot into a severely sloped green. Bunkers protect the front both left and right. But if you must miss the green, you’ll be much better off missing to the right.

hoyo-golfPar 4.  The water shouldn’t be a factor, but this hole is more deceiving than it looks. Place your drive right of the fairway bunker and it will kick to the right. A short to mid iron will get you to a green that slopes from left front to back right and offers an interesting dilemma each time.

hoyo-golfPar 5.  With nearly 600 yards from the back, and the wind in your face, you’re not home free yet. Drive the right center of the fairway and use a fairway wood for your second shot. Watch out for the hidden bunker. A good short iron to a perched green will set you up to end with a birdie.

North Pacific

pafico-norteIt is the sunniest part of Costa Rica, with a succession of beautiful beaches that are ideal to relish under the sun. Besides being a white-sand beach destination it is a region that also includes a vast expanse of areas hosting various ecosystems, volcanoes, towns and monuments where guests can enjoy many activities.

Most of this region comprises the province of Guanacaste, which is one of the cultural and historic revelations since pre-Columbian times.

A very important aspect is that Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport is located in Liberia, which makes things much easier when traveling to this area.

Guanacaste offers golf courses and upscale hotels with splendid panoramas and world-class facilities to grant a unique golf experience.
