Cariari Golf Course in San Jose is proud of their Championship golf course, which was designed by George Fazio and built by his newphew, Tom Fazio, in 1973. This well-manicured course was the first and only 18-hole golf course in all of Central America for nearly two decades.

Once a large coffee plantation in the very heart of the Central Valley, the Cariari was converted into a golf course after much imagination and desire to have complete championship golfing facilities in Costa Rica. The well-thought out landscaping of this course is as impressive, as it is beautiful.

The course is 1,000 meters above sea level. The uneven terrain makes it a difficult course and a real challenge for golfers.
PGA, TLA, and European Tour events have taken place at Cariari Golf Club.

Par 4 of 427 yards. Tree lined fairway with OB along the right side. one large trees 80 yards short of green on the right side. Green protected with trap on the right and OB behind.

Par 4 of 417 yards. Considered the most difficult hole in the course. Narrow fairway from the tee, with lateral water hazard and OB on the right. 70 yards short of the elevated green, water hazard crosses the fairway. Sand traps on both sides of a large and narrow two level green.

Par 4 of 328 yards. OB on the right with a sloping fairway to the left. Green well protected by sand traps.

Par 3 of 150 yards. Elevated tee shot with a lake in front of the green, protected by sand traps on both sides.

Par 4 of 427 yards. Slight dogleg to the left. Very narrow tee shot between two big trees 50 yards off tee. OB along the left side. Second shot to an elevated green, which is protected by a trap on the left.

Par 4 of 391 yards. Elevated tee shot to a sloping fairway to the right. OB on the left. Green well protected by traps on the right and water on the left.

Par 3 of 162 yards. OB on the right, and green well protected by sand traps in front on the left.

Par 5 of 499 yards. Uphill fairway with a river crossing at 70 yards from the tee. OB all the way on the right and on the back of the green. Four fairway traps on the left side, Two, 240 yards from the tee and the other Two 50 yards short of green protected by 3 sand traps.

Par 4 of 448 yards. Downhill fairway with OB on the right. Requires a skillful shot to a well protected green. A creek crosses in front and a sand trap on the right side.

Par 4 of 357 yards. Very narrow fairway with Hazard on left side. A river crosses 150 yards from the tee. A sand trap to the left protects the elevated green, with OB behind it.

Par 4 of 355 yards. Dogleg left with deep river ravine down left side. Sand trap on the left side of the green and OB behind.

Par 5 of 513 yards. Narrow fairway, big trees on the right and OB on the left. A deep depression 100 yards short of the elevated green that is well protected by sand traps on right and left.

Par 3 of 177 yards. Deep hollow with OB on the left and a big tree on the right, 70 yards from the green, which is well protected by sand traps all around.

Par 5 of 522yards. Slight dogleg to the left with OB on the left side of the fairway. A large tree comes into play in the fairway, 260 yards from the tee. Large green protected left and right by sand traps

Par 4 of 433 yards. It is considered the second most difficult hole on the course. OB on the left. Sand traps to the left and right front of green with severe slope to the right of the green into the 14^th fairway.

Par 4 of 442 yards. Narrow fairways with big trees to the right and OB on the left. Sand traps on the left and right of a narrow long green.

Par 3 of 182yards. Sloping fairway to the right. Pine trees on the right and OB on the left. The two level undulating green is well protected by sand traps and OB behind it.

Par 4 of 355 yards. Dogleg to the right. Down sloping fairway, river crosses 30 yards short of green that is well protected by sand traps. Positioning from the tee is essential on this finishing hole.

Central Valley

This area is the geographical and cultural heart of Costa Rica. Here lies the capital, San Jose and other major cities. In what is known as the Central Plateau or Central Valley there is a large tectonic depression over 1,000 meters above sea level with a cool climate all year round. This is an ideal place to start your visit to Costa Rica for here is located the Juan Santamaria International Airport. Most domestic flights across the country out of the Tobias Bolanos Airport, a terminal located 20 minutes from the Juan Santamaria International Airport.

The tourist can stay in the area near the capital for one to two days; this city has a variety of attractions that visitors can enjoy in a single day, including playing golf at renowned courses.
