Group of Organic Farmers in Guanacaste Certified by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock
Organic farming is an alternative agricultural system that relies on fertilizers of organic origin such as compost, manure, green manure, and bone meal and places emphasis on techniques such as crop rotation, companion planting.
Last June, a Group of organic farmers who are members of the Organic Farming Association of Guanacaste are the first to be certified by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG).
In total there were 7 plantations certified as organic. They produce corn, beans, tubers, rice, vegetables, medicinal plants, and other species.
Since 2011 these farmers promote production and trade of organic products and seek to improve the quality of life not only of association members and their families but their communities in Nicoya, Santa Cruz and Nandayure.
